Week of October 22, 2007
Parent-Teacher Conferences Thank you to everyone who took the time to come into school last week for parent-teacher conferences. I’ll be meeting with a few more families in the next several days. I very much appreciate the opportunity to talk with parents early in the school year, to share your children’s work, discuss concerns, and set goals for the rest of the school year. UNICEF This week our class will be learning about the work of UNICEF. The students will prepare and present informa-tion to the rest of the school about the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program. This is a project my class has helped with for many years, and it is dear to my heart (from when I participated as a child!) Our class will view a video and then plan the presentation they will bring, as small groups, to other classrooms. I am always moved by the open-hearted concern the children express as we discuss the needs of others, and how each of us can help. Please look for a UNICEF permission form, and ask your child if s/he would like to participate. If so, sign and return the form to school by next Tuesday. SPELLING THIS WEEK We’ll return to our regular Spelling lessons this week, with Spelling homework due on Wednesday and Friday. NEXT WEEK: A “Heads up” for Halloween Next Wednesday is Hallo-ween, and Doty will have our traditional costume parade for students and the commu-nity at the end of the day. Third & fourth graders will have time to get into cos-tumes just before the parade. I expect there will be cider and a snack for everyone to share, in the gym after the parade.
